The Source Behind Every Power

Scripture: Psalm 62:11

Song: Power belongs to God by Chris Shallom

We are often intimidated by displays of power. The power of governments, the power of wealth, the power of wicked men, and the power of darkness. These powers threaten, boast, manipulate, intimidate, and behave as if life and death are in their hands. Yet Psalm 62:11 pulls back the curtain and reveals a truth many have forgotten: behind every power is a source.

The Scripture reminds us of this truth:

โ€œGod has spoken once; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God.โ€

Power is not ownerless; it is not wandering around without authority. Power is not in the permanent custody of darkness; power has a Custodian, and His name is God. This means no power can operate beyond His permission, no enemy can stretch beyond the boundary He sets, no wicked hand can go further than God allows, no altar, throne, system, voice, or force can become greater than the One who holds power in custody.

The enemy may display power, but he does not own it. Wicked men may use power, but they cannot keep it forever. Darkness may threaten with power, but it must still answer to the God who owns all power. Pharaoh had power until the Custodian of power stepped in and buried him in his red sea. Nebuchadnezzar had power until God reminded him that He rules in the affairs of men. Pilate had power until Jesus told him, โ€œYou could have no power at all against Me, except it were given thee from above.โ€

That is the confidence of the believer. Power belongs to God, every other power is just on temporary assignment, and when the Custodian of power steps in, every borrowed power must return to silence.

So, we are not standing before a world where power is divided equally between God and darkness; we are standing before the God who holds the final authority over every power. When wicked powers threaten, do not bow to fear. Take your case to the Custodian of power. Let Him withdraw strength from what is fighting you; let Him silence what is threatening you; let Him prove that the highest power is not in the hands of your enemies.

Prayer: Lord, You are the Custodian of power. Let every power threatening me answer to You. Withdraw strength from wicked hands, silence every evil voice, and show that power belongs to You alone. Amen.
