Scripture: 2 Kings 5:1–14
One of the painful things about man is that he can pray for help and still reject the help when it comes. Sometimes the issue is not that God has refused to help; the real issue is that pride, offense, suspicion, or fixed expectations have made the heart unable to recognize the vessel He is using. Some people are still waiting for heaven to open while ignoring the person God has already sent.
God does not always send help wrapped in thunder, sometimes He sends a person.
Naaman almost missed his healing because God’s help came through voices he could have easily dismissed. First, it was a young servant girl who pointed him toward the prophet in Israel. Later, when pride made him angry at Elisha’s instruction, his own servants persuaded him to obey. His healing was supernatural, but God used ordinary voices to lead him into it (2 Kings 5:1–14). Many people want help, but they despise the channel; they want open doors but reject correction; they want God to answer, but only in the form they prefer.
Supernatural help requires humility. A proud man can stand beside his helper and still not recognize help. A wounded man can push away the very person God sent because he has concluded that nobody can be trusted. An entitled man can lose help because he does not honour the vessel God is using.
Another danger is that some people recognize the helper and forget the God who sent the helper. They begin to cling to man as if man is the source, and dependence becomes idolatry. Men are vessels, but God is the source. Honor the vessel, but do not worship the vessel.
When God wants to help a man, He can send counsel, correction, favor, recommendation, provision, encouragement, or connection through another person. The question is, will you be humble enough to receive it? Stop asking God for help while rejecting every person He sends to correct, guide, support, or open a door for you.
Evidence of God’s help is that it will not pull you away from God. It may challenge your pride, stretch your obedience, or correct your thinking, but it will not lead you into sin, confusion, or compromise. Any help that costs you your walk with God is not the help God sent.
The help may not look like what you expected, but if God sent it, receive it with wisdom and humility.
Prayer:
Lord, deliver me from pride, offense, and blindness that make men reject the help You send. Give me discernment to recognize Your hand behind the people You bring into my life. Amen.
