Not every remarkable result can be explained by talent. Sometimes, someone’s outcome becomes greater than the ability everyone can see. Skill may explain what the person knows, and diligence may explain the effort invested, but neither fully explains the unusual dimension of the result.
This was the mystery behind Nimrod’s greatness. Scripture did not credit his success to physical strength, courage or hunting experience alone. It pulled back the curtain and revealed the invisible advantage behind his visible achievement: “By the LORD’s help he was a great hunter.” People saw the hunter, but Scripture revealed the Help.
The help of God upon him became so evident that his name became a reference. People did not only admire what he accomplished; they began to pray that the Lord would make others as great as Nimrod. His life became proof that when God places His help upon a person’s ability, the result can exceed every natural explanation.
There is ability, and there is ability carrying divine help. There is effort, and there is effort upon which God has breathed. Two people may possess similar gifts, receive similar training and work under similar conditions, yet the results of one become impossible to ignore because something greater than skill is working through that person.
God’s help does not remove the need for development. Nimrod still had to understand his field, master his weapons, recognize movements and act at the right moment. Divine help did not hunt in his place; it made his ability produce results beyond the ordinary. The Lord can strengthen what you know, polish what you do, guide your decisions and cause your labour to reach places your strength alone could never take it.
Maybe this is the help you need, not the replacement of your ability but God’s hand upon it. You may already have the qualification but need His help to distinguish you. You may understand the work but need His help to produce an uncommon result.
Nimrod’s greatness did not require him to announce himself; his results introduced him. People who had watched what he accomplished began to use his name as a standard. This is what God’s help can do; it can make your life an example of what is possible. Your work can become the evidence that encourages another person to believe. Your testimony can become the language with which others express their expectations.
There is, however, a responsibility that comes with such help. When people begin to praise the visible result, you must remember the invisible source. It is easy to accept the title of “great hunter” and forget the words that came before it: “By the LORD’s help.” The applause may bear your name, but the help carries God’s hand.
Don’t ever become so impressed with what you have achieved that you forget who strengthened you to achieve it. The safest place for a person whom God is helping is humility. You may be the name people mention, but God is the reason your name is worth mentioning.
Today, do not look only at the size of the assignment before you or the limitations of your present strength. Ask for the help that turns ability into distinction, labour into evidence and an unknown name into a reference. The Lord can help you until your results speak where you have never been introduced. He can help you until those who witnessed your struggle begin to point to your life as proof of His faithfulness.
Prayer
Father, I acknowledge that my ability, experience and effort are not enough without Your help. Place Your hand upon the work You have committed to me and cause my labour to produce results that reveal Your involvement. Help me until my life becomes a reference for Your faithfulness and an encouragement to everyone still waiting for their own testimony. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
