Scripture: Hebrews 8:6
Scripture: “But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.” — Hebrews 8:6 (KJV)
On the night before Jesus went to the cross, He took the cup and made a declaration that changed everything: “This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you” (Luke 22:20). He was not only preparing His disciples for His death, He was announcing the establishment of a new covenant, a covenant sealed, not with the blood of animals, but with His own blood.
A covenant is more than a promise; it establishes a binding relationship, declares allegiance, and gives authority to what has been agreed. It can determine whom a person belongs to, what operates within that relationship, and what may pass from one generation to another. As a result, covenants were treated with such seriousness throughout Scripture.
Not every covenant, however, originates from God or agrees with His purpose. There are covenants established through idolatry, occult practices, ungodly rituals, dedications, oaths, and agreements with powers of darkness. Some are entered deliberately; others are made on behalf of people before they are old enough to understand or consent. Some are connected to families and communities and are passed from one generation to another. Although the people involved may no longer remember what was done, the effects may continue to appear through recurring bondage, oppression, and destructive patterns.
But Jesus did not shed His blood just to add another covenant to those already speaking over humanity. He came as the Mediator of a better covenant. The New Covenant is better because the One who established it is greater. Its authority does not come from human promises, ancestral practices, or the activities of spiritual powers. It was established by Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and sealed with His own blood. Therefore, it cannot be placed on the same level as any covenant created by darkness.
When the blood of Jesus establishes God’s covenant over a life, every covenant that contradicts it is annulled. Every ungodly agreement, dedication, oath, and ancestral claim must lose its authority because a greater covenant has taken its place. The blood does not negotiate with what God has rejected. It does not share ownership with powers that seek to hold God’s people in bondage. It declares that the person purchased by Christ belongs completely to Him.
Paul tells us that Christ blotted out what stood against us, took it out of the way and nailed it to His cross. He then spoiled principalities and powers and triumphed over them openly (Colossians 2:14–15). The things that stood against us were not ignored; they were taken out of the way. The powers behind them were not appeased; they were defeated. This means that no covenant contrary to God’s will has the right to continue ruling the life of someone who belongs to Christ.
Your life cannot belong to Jesus and remain the lawful possession of another power. Christ did not make a partial purchase. He did not redeem your spirit while leaving your body, family, or future under the control of darkness. He paid the full price and claimed your entire life for God.
This truth does not mean that every manifestation of bondage disappears without resistance. Powers that have exercised influence for generations may still attempt to enforce old claims. You must not continue agreeing with what the blood has cancelled.
Renounce every allegiance that contradicts your relationship with Christ. Reject every covenant that is not in agreement with God’s Word. Refuse to accept recurring bondage as an unavoidable family inheritance. Do not give greater authority to what happened in your ancestry than to what Jesus accomplished on the cross. The better covenant has been established. Every contrary covenant must be annulled.
Prayer
Father, by the authority of the blood of Jesus, I renounce every demonic, ancestral, and ungodly covenant, dedication, oath, or agreement made by me or on my behalf that is contrary to Your will. Let every such covenant be annulled, and let every power seeking to enforce it lose its hold over my life. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
