Scripture: Colossians 2:14โ15
Scripture: “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” โ Colossians 2:14โ15 (KJV)
From the beginning, the kingdom of darkness has resisted the purposes of God. Whenever God raises a man, announces a promise, or sets a purpose in motion, the enemy seeks to frustrate it. Pharaoh tried to destroy Moses before he could deliver Israel. Haman secured a decree to wipe out the Jews before God’s covenant purpose could unfold. Herod ordered the slaughter of innocent children in an attempt to destroy the promised Messiah. These were not ordinary events; they revealed a kingdom determined to oppose the will of God.
The same conflict continues today. The enemy still seeks to hinder, delay, discourage, accuse, and destroy. He delights in building barriers where God has promised advancement, planting fear where God has spoken peace, and stirring opposition against what God intends to accomplish. Behind many visible battles is an unseen kingdom that refuses to surrender without a fight.
When Jesus shed His blood, He did not only endure suffering; He won a decisive victory. Paul says that every handwriting that was against us was taken out of the way and nailed to the cross. Then he immediately declares that Christ spoiled principalities and powers, made an open spectacle of them, and triumphed over them. The cross was not heaven’s defeat; it was heaven’s triumph; the place where hell believed it had silenced the Son of God became the place where its own confidence was publicly shattered.
The blood of Jesus is therefore more than the testimony of forgiveness; it is the testimony of Christ’s victory. Every time we remember the blood, we remember that darkness has already faced its greatest defeat. The principalities and powers that once boasted in their strength were openly disgraced by the One they thought they had conquered. The cross announced to every realm that Jesus Christ is Lord and that no power can overturn what He has accomplished.
Therefore, believers must never magnify the works of darkness above the work of Christ. There are times when circumstances seem to suggest that unseen forces are resisting God’s purpose, when doors remain closed, promises appear delayed, battles become unusually intense, and discouragement whispers that nothing will ever change. Yet the blood reminds us that our confidence does not rest in what we see but in what Christ has already accomplished. We do not fight in order to obtain His victory; we stand because He has already won it.
Whenever you plead the blood of Jesus, you are not repeating empty words or performing a religious ritual. You are declaring your confidence in the finished work of Christ. You are affirming that the victory of the cross is greater than every accusation, every scheme, every oppression, and every power that seeks to resist the purposes of God. The blood continually points us back to the triumph of Christ, where principalities and powers were stripped of their confidence and exposed before all creation.
This does not give us license to live carelessly or ignore God’s commands. The blood calls us to walk closely with the One who shed it and also teaches us never to surrender to fear. Today, refuse to exalt your battle above the blood of Jesus or believe that the opposition before you is greater than the victory behind you. Stand in faith, pray with confidence, obey God without compromise, and remember that the cross has already declared the verdict, and Christ’s triumph remains unchanged.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for the blood of Jesus, the everlasting testimony of Christ’s victory. I stand today in the triumph of the cross and declare that every work of darkness resisting Your purpose in my life is subject to the authority of Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
