Scripture: Ephesians 6:18
‘Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…” — Ephesians 6:18 (KJV)
No army builds an armored vehicle for display; its armor is not there for decoration. It is not designed to impress spectators; it is built to survive enemy fire, advance into hostile territory, and engage in battle. An armored vehicle parked safely in a garage may look impressive, but it is not fulfilling its purpose. In much the same way, God did not give believers spiritual armor so that we could admire it; He gave it because we are in a war.
Paul did not end the armor of God with admiration; he ended it with prayer. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God are not spiritual ornaments; they are battle equipment. Paul reminds us that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, powers, and spiritual wickedness. The Christian life was never intended to be passive. But if we wrestle against principalities and powers, where does that wrestling happen?
It happens in prayer. Prayer is the battlefield where the armored believer engages the enemy. It is where faith is exercised, where the sword of the Spirit is wielded, where promises are enforced, and where strongholds are confronted. It is where God’s people refuse to surrender ground that Christ has already purchased for them.
Many believers wear the armor but never enter the battlefield. They know about prayer but rarely wrestle. They know God’s promises, but seldom contend for them before God. The enemy is not intimidated by armor that is never used.
What troubles the kingdom of darkness is a believer who understands that victory is not discussed; it is pursued on the battlefield of prayer. The good news is that we do not enter this battlefield uncertain of the outcome. God has already provided everything necessary for victory. He has clothed us with armor, armed us with His Word, and given us access to His presence.
We do not wrestle hoping God will be victorious; we wrestle because He already is. The battle may be fierce, but the believer who enters the place of prayer does not fight alone. He fights under the authority of a king who has never lost a battle.
The armor is proof that God expects resistance; prayer is where we meet it.
Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I have admired the armor without using it. Teach me to take my place on the battlefield of prayer. Help me to stand firm, wield Your Word faithfully, and engage every battle with confidence in Your victory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
