Scripture: Genesis 7:16
We often ask God to keep us from the storm, but Noah’s story tells a different story. God did not keep Noah from the flood, He kept Noah in the flood.
The rain fell on the ark, and waters surrounded it. The winds beat against it, everything outside was being shaken, uprooted, and swept away, yet Noah and his family remained safe because they were under a protection the flood could not penetrate.
Many of us want a God who removes every flood. We pray against the storm, against the pressure, against the uncertainty, against the trouble, but there are times when God demonstrates His faithfulness in a different way. Instead of stopping the flood, He shows us that the flood cannot touch what He has covered.
Noah was not watching the storm from heaven; he was in it. He heard the rain, he felt the movement of the waters, and he lived through the uncertainty of not knowing how long it would last, yet the flood never had access to him.
Why? Because God had shut him in.
The same waters that destroyed everything else carried the ark. What was an instrument of destruction to others became an instrument of preservation in God’s hands. Only God can do that. Only God can take the very thing that should have overwhelmed you and use it to carry you. Only God can allow you to pass through a storm without letting the storm pass through you.
Perhaps that is the encouragement some of us need today.
The flood may not stop immediately, the pressure may not disappear overnight, some questions may remain unanswered for a while, but if God has covered you, your safety does not depend on calm weather, it depends on His faithfulness.
Noah’s confidence was not in the strength of the waters, nor even in the strength of the ark. His confidence was in the God who had promised preservation, and that same God has not changed.
There are storms that God will calm and there are others He will carry you through. But in both cases, the promise remains the same: what He has committed to preserve will not be abandoned in the flood. The waters touched the ark, but they could not touch what God had covered.
Whatever the days ahead may hold, we do not walk into them alone. The God who preserved Noah is still preserving His people. He is not overwhelmed by the darkness of our times, nor surprised by the dangers around us. His eyes still watch, His hand still keeps, and His faithfulness still endures. We can rest in the assurance that our lives are safest in the hands of the God who never fails to keep His own.
Prayer: Lord, thank You that my life is not at the mercy of every storm around me. Teach me to trust Your protection when the waters rise. Keep me, carry me, and preserve all that You have entrusted to me. Amen.
