Scripture: Jeremiah 29:13
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
We have spent enough time mourning the fire; it is time to seek the One who can make it burn again. A point comes when recognising our coldness is no longer enough. We may admit that something has changed, remember how deeply we once loved God and feel sorrow over how far we have drifted. But if that realisation does not move us towards Him, it will become another emotional moment that changes nothing.
The way back begins with seeking. God says, “Ye shall seek me, and find me.” This is not only an instruction, it is also a promise. The God we are seeking wants to be found. He is not hiding from the person who genuinely desires Him; He has not closed His heart because we wandered; He is calling us to turn towards Him again.
Yet we must seek God Himself, not only what He can do. Many times, what we call seeking God is actually seeking an answer. We approach Him because we need a door to open, a burden to be lifted, a sickness to be healed or a difficult situation to change. We pray earnestly until the answer comes, and when it does, our pursuit quietly ends.
There is nothing wrong with bringing our needs to God; He invites us to ask. But if we stop seeking Him whenever the problem disappears, perhaps the problem was the true object of our pursuit. God is more than the One who answers our prayers. He is not only the way to the life we want; He is the life our souls need.
He is the treasure. He is not a temporary refuge until circumstances improve or a passage on our way to something more valuable. A returning heart must come to the point where it can say, “Lord, if there were no urgent request upon my lips, I would still seek You. If You placed nothing new in my hands today, I would still want to know You. I have not come only for an answer; I have come for You.”
Such a desire may not begin with powerful emotions. A heart that has remained distant may initially feel dry and distracted, but hunger is often restored while we are turning towards God. Do not wait until you feel as fervent as you once were. Bring Him the heart you have now; the tired heart, the wandering heart, even the heart that feels almost nothing, and ask Him to awaken it again.
Then. make room for God, withdraw from the noise, return to the place of prayer and seek Him with your whole heart. As you turn towards Him, competing desires will begin to lose their hold, and your soul will remember that nothing else can satisfy it. The distance does not have to continue, and the coldness does not have to become permanent. There is still more of God to know, more of His love to discover and more of His glory to encounter. He will be found by the heart that seeks Him.
Prayer
Lord, I have spent enough time recognising my distance without taking the steps that will bring me back. Today, my heart answers Your call: Your face, Lord, will I seek. Awaken in me a desire for You that is greater than my desire for anything You can give. Draw my wandering heart back to You and teach me to seek You wholeheartedly. I have not come only for an answer; I have come for You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
