“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me…”

When Jesus spoke those words in the synagogue, He was not describing a spiritual experience; He was declaring the source of the authority and relevance His life would carry in the world. Everything that followed in His ministry, healing the brokenhearted, lifting those who were crushed by life, restoring sight to the blind, and proclaiming freedom to the captive, flowed from that one reality: the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him.

The presence of the Spirit meant that His life could not remain ordinary. It meant He carried heaven’s answer into earthly problems. Where people saw situations that had no solution, the Spirit upon Him made Him a vessel through which God’s power and compassion entered those situations.

That same Spirit did not remain limited to Christ alone. The promise of the gospel is that the Spirit of God now rests upon those who belong to Him. This means the Christian life is never meant to be passive or irrelevant. When the Spirit of the Lord is upon a people, they become carriers of hope in places that feel hopeless, voices of truth in places filled with confusion, and instruments of restoration where lives have been broken.

The world does not only need more opinions; it needs lives that carry the presence of God into ordinary spaces. The Spirit upon a believer is not decoration; it is empowerment. It calls us to move through the world aware that God intends to touch people through the lives of those who belong to Him.

So, the question is not only whether we believe the Spirit is upon us. The deeper question is whether we are willing to live as people who carry Him. When the Spirit of the Lord rests on a life, it brings relevance, courage, and compassion into the places where God sends that person.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon us, not so we withdraw from the world, but so that through us the world can encounter the life of God.

Prayer

Lord, let my life reflect the reality of Your Spirit resting upon me. Help me to walk with courage, compassion, and clarity so that wherever I go, Your presence becomes visible through what I say and what I do. Amen.
