Scripture: Philippians 2:6–9
“Who, being in the form of God… humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him.” — Philippians 2:6–9
Sacrifice is not an optional part of walking with God. It is one of the laws of spiritual significance. Wherever God intends to achieve something weighty through a person, something must be yielded.
When heaven needed someone to carry God’s message, the question was, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” God was looking for availability. He needed someone willing to leave personal comfort, accept responsibility, and become an instrument in His hands. Isaiah’s response, “Here am I! Send me,” was the language of sacrifice.
The greatest example is Jesus Christ. He did not fulfil the work of redemption by preserving His comfort. He gave Himself, surrendered His position, embraced humility, accepted obedience, and went to the cross. Scripture then says, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him.” The exaltation was connected to the surrender.
This does not mean sacrifice purchases God’s favour. Jesus was already favoured as the beloved Son before the cross. Yet the purpose of redemption required sacrifice. Love alone did not remain as an emotion; it expressed itself through costly obedience.
There are dimensions of God’s purpose that convenience will never enter. Many believers desire spiritual power, influence, answered prayers, and usefulness, but they want them without inconvenience. They want to pray without losing sleep, fast without feeling hunger, give without reducing their savings, serve without disrupting their schedule, forgive without releasing their pride, and obey without abandoning their own plans. But anything that costs you nothing rarely changes you deeply.
Sacrifice creates room for God. It weakens the control of the flesh, breaks attachment to comfort, proves the sincerity of obedience, and makes a person available for divine use. There are things God may want to do through you, but your attachment to ease keeps standing in the way.
Every altar demands something: time, money, pride, relationships, sleep, or personal ambition. You cannot carry a serious assignment with a casual level of surrender. Are willing to pay the cost of becoming fully available to God.
Prayer: Lord, deliver me from a Christianity built around comfort. Show me what must be surrendered, and give me the grace to place it before You. Let nothing in my life be too precious to yield for Your purpose. Amen.
