Most people think they have peace until something happens, such as delayed prayer, when a loved one receives a troubling report or when a business opportunity falls through, and suddenly, what seemed like peace makes way for worry, fear, and countless questions.
The truth is that many of us have become accustomed to a peace that depends on circumstances. As long as things are going well, we are calm; when life makes sense, we are confident; when our plans are working out, we feel secure. But life has a way of exposing the foundation on which our peace is built.
Paul speaks about having our feet shod with the gospel of peace. A soldier’s footwear was not designed to make him look impressive but to make him remain steady on difficult ground. In the same way, the gospel gives believers stability.
The good news is not just that God blesses us; the good news is that through Jesus Christ, we have been brought into a relationship with Him. We are His, we belong to Him, and we are no longer trying to earn His acceptance or convince Him to love us.
When you know that God is your Father, you do not have to panic every time life becomes uncertain. Christ has secured your future; you do not have to be consumed by fear about tomorrow. God is ever faithful; you should not fall apart because today’s situation is difficult. Many of the things that steal our peace are things we cannot change anyway. We imagine worst-case scenarios, replay conversations, and carry burdens that God never asked us to carry. The result is exhaustion.
Peace begins when we stop trying to occupy God’s position, when we acknowledge that some things are beyond us but never beyond Him, when we trust His character even when we do not understand His methods. This does not mean we ignore reality, but we refuse to allow problems to have the final word.
There will always be unanswered questions; there will always be situations that stretch our faith, but the believer’s confidence is not that life will always be easy, it is that God will always be faithful. This belief is why our peace can survive difficult seasons, because circumstances will not always be favorable, but our God remains faithful always.

Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I have allowed circumstances to dictate my peace. Help me to surrender every burden, fear, and unanswered question into Your hands and to rest in the assurance that You remain faithful in every season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
