One of the greatest differences between God’s Word and man’s word is that God watches over His Word to fulfill it. Human words fail every day; people make promises they can’t perform. But God is not a man; when He speaks, He commits Himself to what He has spoken.
The Bible shows this by giving numerous accounts of events that show the fulfillment of God’s Word, and often, these accounts are supernatural.
God told Abraham he would become the father of many nations. Years passed and nothing appeared to happen. His body aged, and Sarah’s womb remained barren. Circumstances seemed to mock the promise, yet the Word did not fail.
God told Joseph he would rise. Before fulfillment came, he found himself in a pit, then in slavery, then in prison. Everything around him contradicted the promise, yet the Word did not fail. God told Israel they would enter the Promised Land. They encountered giants, fortified cities, and obstacles on every side, but the Word did not fail.
The power of God’s Word is not measured by how quickly it happens but by the certainty that it will happen. Many people abandon God’s Word because they mistake delay for failure, but God’s promises do not expire because time passes.
God is faithful to keep His words. Faithfulness is His identity. Isaiah says God’s Word will accomplish what He pleases and prospers in the thing for which He sent it. That means every promise of God carries within it the certainty of God’s faithfulness. Our responsibility is not to make the Word come to pass, but to believe, obey, and stand upon it.
Perhaps today you are holding onto a promise that seems delayed; do not judge God’s Word by today’s circumstances. Judge your circumstances by God’s Word, because what God has spoken may be tested, delayed, opposed, or challenged, but it cannot fail.
Prayer
Father, thank You because Your Word never fails. Help me to trust Your promises above what I see around me. Teach me to stand upon Your Word until I see the fulfillment of all that You have spoken. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
