Many people spend years asking, Why am I here? What is my purpose? What was I made for? They look for purpose in success, in applause, in titles, in possessions, and sometimes even in people. But purpose is not first discovered in the noise of the world. It is first found in the intention of God. If a person does not return to the beginning, they may spend their whole life busy and still remain unclear. Genesis 1:27–28 takes us back to that beginning. It shows that man did not appear on the earth as an accident, and man was not created empty.

Before man entered history, purpose had already been spoken. Before man was sent into the earth, he was first formed in the thought of God. Before he was given responsibility, he was given identity. “So, God created man in his own image.” That means man did not begin as a mistake, an experiment, or a random presence on the earth. He began as a deliberate reflection of God. This is where purpose truly starts.

The first question of life is not, What can I build? but Whose image am I bearing? Many people spend years trying to become important, yet never stop to ask whether their lives still look like the One who made them. They chase visibility and miss identity. They pursue success and lose resemblance. But no matter how far a person rises, if they lose the image, they lose the center.

To be made in the image of God means man was created to carry God’s nature into the earth. He was made to reflect His heart, His wisdom, His purity, and His rule. Man was never designed to be an empty vessel for the world to define. He was made to reveal God. That is why a life disconnected from God will always struggle with meaning. When resemblance is lost, confusion enters, and when the image is ignored, purpose becomes distorted.

This also means your life cannot be called ordinary. You were born from divine intention. Before people spoke over you, God had already spoken. Before life tried to reduce you to labels, pain, or limitation, heaven had already established your worth. You are not valuable because of what you have done. You are valuable because of the God whose image you were created to bear. Therefore, you must never build your identity on things that can collapse.

So today, do not rush first to assignment, return to your identity. Ask God to restore whatever has blurred His image in you. Let Him deal with the things that have made your life look more like pressure, fear, culture, or self than like Him. Because the first purpose of man is not to live for himself, but to look like God.

Prayer:
Father, thank You because my life began in Your intention. Strip away every false identity I have carried and help me to live for your purpose alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
